Our Temple Story
Sri Shivanankareshwar Swamy

Sri Shivanankareshwar Kshetra is an ancient and traditional holy site with a religious background. It is located in Kanakapura Taluk, Bangalore South District, on the way to Sangam, about one km before the confluence, on the left side there is a small village called 'Kogge Doddi', and the sound of the Arkavathi River welcomes you near the road adjacent to it. Crossing the bridge of the Arkavathi River and moving towards the eastern forest path, the sound of birds and wildlife invites you.

If you travel about 5 km on the road, there is a small village called Madiwala [Tambadageri]. Since ancient times, there have been temple priests (Tambadis) in this village, and people of the Soliga community also live in it. If you pass through this village, about one km away is the temple of Sri Shivanankareshwar Swamy.

The temple is very ancient, and from the ruins it is believed to date back to the Hoysala-Chalukya period. According to the elders, the stream that flowed violently on the side of the temple caused tremors in the surrounding areas. To protect devotees, Sri Shivanankareshwar Swamy knelt across the stream, preventing the temple and devotees from being washed away.

At present, the ruins of that once glorious temple lie scattered there, and the remains of the temple tower have sunk in some deep place near the confluence. The present Shri Shivanankareshwara Swamy Sannidhi was later built by devotees using some ruins of the old temple.

The previous temple had about 101 columns, while the current temple is said to have 30–40 columns. There are three sanctuaries in this temple:

  • Sri Shivanankareshwar Swamy (divine Linga)
  • Mother Swalagitthayamma
  • Mother Bhadrakali and Veerabhadra Swamy

There are also small temples in the four directions:

  • Kadashivanappa (East)
  • Ellemaramma (West)
  • Elle Basappa (North)
  • Thattagod Basappa (South)
It is customary for devotees to worship these border deities first and then have darshan of Sri Shivanankareshwar Swamy.

Since the temple’s construction, the same priestly family has carried out the rituals for generations. To revive this sacred place, devotees formed Shri Shivanankareshwara Kshetrabhivriddhi Trust (R) on 15-04-2005. The Trust takes care of the temple, has built the Rajagopura, priest quarters, and organizes regular worship.

With the cooperation of devotees, Shivaratri Jatrotsava, Ashada Puja, and Karthika month pujas are celebrated grandly. The Trust is also working to create basic facilities for devotees and seeks donations in the form of building materials or contributions.

🙏 We pray that Lord Shivanankareshwara Swamy blesses all devotees with health, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment. 🙏
